Welcome to Central Virginia Machine Service's website. We certainly thank you for your interest. Allow me to describe for you, our business and our philosophy.
We offer old fashioned "small town America" service in a full-aspect automotive machine shop. From pressure testing the head from an old Escort, to building the power plant for a 9-second GTO, we specialize in quality and timely service. No job is too small for our complete attention.
All of our engines are custom built for each application. We don't feel the "crate motor" approach to engine building is the best solution for the discerning customer. From a stock restoration to a full-out race engine, every car is different. While there are certain aspects of all engines within a family that stay constant, a subtle change can make the difference between a "good" engine and a GREAT engine.
Our lead machinist is Jim Lehart, an ASE Master Engine Builder with more than twenty years experience. Many of you in the Pontiac "world" already know him as Mr. P-Body. Jim is a veteran of the street machine wars of Southern California in the late '60s and early '70s. His GTOs were known as a force not to be taken lightly during a time of complete disrespect to the Pontiac nameplate.
A modern automotive engine builder must be versed in all makes of engines. While our personal favorite is the Pontiac V8 (we affectionately refer to it as "The Injun Engine"), we are not limited to only Pontiacs. We take great pride in our ability to build a quality restoration or a monster truck engine of any make. We build competitive circle track Small Block Chevys. We build powerful street machine Big Block Chevys. We have trophy winning Dodges and Fords. There are even a few 600 HP Buicks out there with our "name" on them!
It is impossible for one small shop to "specialize" in all types engines. We aren't your "high end" spit-polished race shop. Nor are we the grubby little hole in the wall behind the parts store. We cater to the mid-level hobbyist wanting a higher-than-stock performer without paying "race" prices. We also build high quality light truck and light industrial engines of most makes, including diesel and "performance" tractor engines. Restoration of antique tractor engines has become part of our service due to the popularity in our local market.
Internal components such as pistons, connecting rods and camshafts are selected for each application based on level required and budget. Combinations are carefully analyzed for optimum performance and computer modeled. Dynomometer services are available. We use only the highest quality parts in our engines.
In today's information-crazy world, it's easy to be misled by incorrect or "slanted" data. Everyone on the internet has the best quality, the most power, the cheapest parts, and so on. In some cases, this is actually true. But not everyone can be "the best". There are also those that attempt to portray a much larger image than they are capable of fulfilling.
Let the buyer beware! CV Machine is an incorporated business, operating in Burkeville, VA. Burkeville is a small town, about 45 mi. SW of Richmond. We're at the junction of two large highways (US 360 and US 460). This helps keep our overhead down. It also makes it easy for us to ship our products.
On our website, you will find photos of our location, our machines and workshop, as well as some of our wares. You are always welcome to call or come and visit our facility. We've been told our website doesn't have enough price and product information. We're aware of this. It is purposeful. At CVMS, we're not about the "sale" or the hype. We're about "the engine". For the purpose of satisfying our potential customers, we have included pricing for the more popular products and services we provide.
We hope you enjoy the site, and we look forward to serving you!
